Abuja, Monday, September 28, 2020: A coalition of civil society organizations (CSO) today launched the second edition of the National Freedom of Information Compliance and Transparency Ranking of Public Institutions and named the Bureau for Public Service Reforms (BPSR) the most compliant and transparent public institution for the year 2020.

The organizations namely BudgIT, Basic Rights Watch (BRW), the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), Media Rights Agenda (MRA), Right to Know (R2K) and the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) collaborated to rank public institutions based on their level of disclosure, transparency, and compliance with the Freedom of Information Act, 2011.

March 19, 2019, Abuja – The BPSR in collaboration with R2K, Nigeria, today launched a Federal Government Policy brief titled; “Policy recommendations for strengthening the implementation of the freedom of information act in the Nigeria Federal Public Service”. This was done with support from the MacArthur Foundation.

The policy brief marks the culmination of the joint BPSR and R2K, Nigeria study on “Administrative Burden in the Implementation of The Freedom of Information Act 2011” in 4 pilot supervising Ministries, Departments and Agencies MDAs). The MDAs in focus were Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Federal Ministry of Justice, Code of Conduct Bureau and Federal Ministry of Finance.

6 December 2018. Abuja; Today, the Nigeria Government Inter-ministerial task team (IMTT) on the scorecard of the websites of Public Institutions, released the results of its first pilot peer review. The scorecard is aimed at promoting the implementation of the FOI Act 2011 in Public Institutions by ensuring that the constraints in accessing information on websites of government institutions are curbed. And to minimize direct human relations, in the delivery of public service by these institutions as a way to limit corruption.

28 September 2018, Abuja - Right To Know (R2K) Nigeria today joins access to information advocates globally to celebrate the 3rd Anniversary of the International Day for the Universal Access to Information (2018).

As part of activities to celebrate this day, R2K, Nigeria has today released an updated version of its FOI Compliance Assessment Report 2018. This report is a comparative analysis focused on two key provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, particularly, Section 2 (3 & 4) which provides for Proactive Disclosure and Section 29 (1, 2 & 3) which compels an FOI Annual Submission to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation by all public institutions in Nigeria.

14 June 2018, Abuja: As part of engagements to promote public access to the information and documents held by public institutions in Nigeria, Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) in collaboration with Right To Know (R2K), Nigeria and support from the MacArthur Foundation, today launched on the NEITI website an Audit Data Dashboard. The Dashboard will in a single click provide access to information on NEITI’s annual Audit reports on the extractive sector (Oil & Gas, Solid Minerals) in Nigeria.

This electronic platform will demystify the somewhat complex and voluminous yearly Audit reports into an easy to read and digest format with a built-in user-friendly search parameter and navigation.
